Fast-growing international organization
“Through our M&A strategy, new companies have been acquired with regularity. It is of course very nice that we are achieving additional growth this way. Each of the acquired companies had its own ICT systems, applications and (cloud) solutions. If you don’t handle this intelligently, the ICT within our group will eventually become unmanageable,” says Remco Kruitbosch, manager shared services infrastructure at Royal Reesink. “To avoid creating a fragmented ICT landscape, this requires specialized network knowledge. Fortunately, we already had the necessary experience with iunxi and we knew by now that we could rely on their advice. Precisely thinking along and recognizing the importance of Royal Reesink is very important to us at this stage.”
Royal Reesink operates primarily in the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Germany, England, Denmark, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Turkey and South Africa. “Our divisions and subsidiaries have a high degree of operational responsibility. This strengthens the power of innovation and solution-oriented thinking within all layers of the organization. To maintain an overview of our firm course, we want to manage and control ICT from within the group. That way, not every subsidiary company has to reinvent the wheel and it also brings significant cost benefits. Many different solutions and suppliers are much more difficult to control. In particular, carrying out modifications is a nightmare if this has to be done across several disks. We want to avoid such complexity, which is why our ict had to be cast in a single framework.”
Control and optimize
Barry Huis in ‘t veld, COO & CISO at iunxi says, “We have realized an infrastructure for Royal Reesink that is the same across all locations. That didn’t just happen overnight. We started with the inventory per location and site by site – which, by the way, were more than 30 sites spread over several countries! Thus, we mapped the network and drew up a list of optimizations. Then iunxi took everything under management. The documentation prepared from the inventory is then our source for operational management and determines the steps we take next. In such complex processes, it is important to first ensure understanding and control of all components. Then we proceed to optimize and consolidate the infrastructure. We then take care of the migration of equipment and connections, among other things, and of course we optimize IT security during such a process. The network is equipped to transparently move servers from the existing data center to the new data center, without IP renumbering. We also handle the migration of old Internet connections. iunxi can switch much better with existing network suppliers and/or service providers from experience and knowledge than our customers usually can.”
Grow flexibly with a robust network
It was an intense journey. Everything had to be well considered, done with policy and with minimal downtime. “After all, the store will remain open during the renovation,” Barry explains. “This requires good cooperation and mutual trust. At iunxi, we maintain short lines of communication and are flexible. Only then can you achieve a lot for the client and get the best result out of a complex situation.”
Remco continues “There are always many issues coming up that are unknown, just think of the application area. Then of course it is important to respond to these unexpected issues and provide the right solutions. What is also a great advantage for us in working with iunxi is that, as a service provider, they can deliver the network as a service. iunxi is able to take over the management of our existing infrastructure and make it manageable again. This know-how is really distinctive for us and necessary for the further growth of Royal Reesink. Because we are now fully ‘in control’, making adjustments is less complicated and new locations can be integrated more easily. We have a single point of contact for our WAN, LAN and network security.”
