VZVZ ensures that the exchange of medical data through this network is technically and organizationally sound. VZVZ directs the exchange chain and monitors the speed, reliability and security of the system and from this role provides the GZN seal of approval. Medical data exchange is an absolute must within the healthcare chain. The family physician and the pharmacist each keep records on their patients. They may share certain information from it with other health care providers. This is done through the National Switch Point. Most of the community and outpatient pharmacies, general practitioner practices, GP outpatient clinics and hospitals in the Netherlands are connected to it. And that includes more and more healthcare providers, such as mental health institutions, VVT institutions and healthcare groups (for chain care). A secure connection between well-managed healthcare systems underlies this.

The networks that provide this must be set up in an extremely reliable manner; data must be accessed and transported in a secure manner, and continuity is an important requirement. VZVZ is therefore extremely careful in awarding the GZN seal of approval.
